New Report from 451 Research Shows Sharp Acceleration in AWS Cloud Managed Services
As requisite AWS skillsets become more difficult and expensive to find, organizations are increasingly turning to cloud managed services providers to confidently advance their AWS goals
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – August 9, 2022 – Mission Cloud Services, a cloud managed services provider and Amazon Web Services (AWS) Premier Tier Services Partner, today announced the findings and availability of Businesses Look to Cloud Managed Service Providers To Achieve Success With AWS. Commissioned by Mission, the new report from 451 Research (part of S&P Global Market Intelligence) surveyed 950 AWS users across North America.
The report underscores the role AWS plays in organizations’ cloud transformation. By successfully harnessing the potential AWS offers across myriad cloud initiatives, businesses gain accelerated time-to-market, more secure applications, and greater agility, among other advantages. However, many organizations pursuing these cloud goals lack the internal AWS expertise required to optimize their environments and unlock all of the advantages AWS offers. This divide is driving increased reliance on managed and professional services able to deliver that expertise and meet businesses at whatever stage they are in their cloud journey.
Among the key findings from the 451 Research report on AWS users:
- 96% of organizations lack the necessary skills to implement and manage AWS.
Organizations report widening knowledge gaps when it comes to utilizing the ever-expanding set of AWS services and capabilities. Asked which skills are most lacking in their business’s implementation and enablement of AWS, respondents named cloud security skills (47%), data analysis skills (46%), cloud platform skills (42%), AI/ML skills (34%), and DevOps skills (34%) as their top areas of need. Only 4% report they already have the necessary skillsets in-house to implement and manage AWS.
- 68% of organizations plan to become more reliant on managed or professional services over the next 12 months.
Organizations cite the high difficulty of recruiting and retaining AWS cloud expertise as a primary driver for teaming with external providers. Among businesses self-identifying in the report as technology early adopters, the demand is even higher: 79% plan to be more reliant on AWS partners over the next year.
- Security, cloud performance, and cost-efficiency are driving the most demand for cloud managed services.
Organizations reported the top AWS challenges they are currently looking for cloud managed services providers to solve. Security and compliance was a challenge for 52% of AWS users, with 51% naming performance, 48% citing data protection, and 46% seeking external support for AWS cost optimization.
“The 451 Research report makes it clear that businesses understand the transformative power that AWS can deliver and the challenge of achieving those cloud goals without the right expertise,” said Jonathan LaCour, CTO, Mission. “Whether architecting, migrating, managing, or optimizing cloud environments, Mission is built to deliver the exact expertise, technologies, and managed solutions to meet an organization’s specific goals on AWS.”
